Description
This 1950's black and white, tweed-textured rayon suit has a wonderful hip-length peplum jacket over a straight skirt, which is actually attached to a silky rayon under-bodice. (The black bodice section is somewhat sheer, and not originally intended to be shown, although to a modern eye it would not appear immodest if the jacket were removed.) The dress closes with a back zip and is unlined. The double-breasted jacket closes with 4 large black buttons, and two more buttons decorate the separate back flap section of the peplum. The jacket has wide lapels forming a v-neckline, and a bit of the black under-bodice is just visible above the neckline when it is closed as shown, possibly because the jacket is a little large for our mannequin. It has long straight sleeves, and is fully lined with black acetate fabric. This suit is in very good condition, with a few minor issues. There is a small amount of fraying at one jacket buttonhole, the sleeve linings may have shrunk when the jacket was cleaned, making the sleeve hems lay not quite flat, and the fabric may be slightly more nubby than when it was new--although this is hard to say for certain, since it had a nubby tweed texture already. This versatile suit could go from a day at work to a cocktail event with just a change of accessories, always a plus!
