Description
Delicate black lace and sheer black mesh alternate in 4 tiers like overlapping peplums on the multi-layered skirt of this late 1940's evening gown. The shirred bodice has a sweetheart neckline, the thinnest of shoulder straps and a pretty lace ruffle that decorates the top edge of the neckline. The gown closes with a plastic side zipper; at some point it was used to replace the original zipper, which would have been metal. The skirt section of the gown is constructed with an under-layer of black taffeta, which has a circle of plastic "boning" at each tier. This boning has cracked and bent, making the skirt narrower in silhouette than originally intended. As shown, the skirt will hang closer to the body. If the boning were removed, it will fall in an A-line shape to the hem, more or less as it does now. If, however, the boning were replaced, the skirt will stand out further from the body when worn. The gown is in good, wearable condition, with its only other issue some discoloration of one section of the taffeta underskirt, also not visible when the dress is worn. The gathered layers of sheer mesh and lace that float one above the other make this a beautifully feminine vintage gown. It is quite small, so please check the measurements carefully.
