Description
The swingy shape of this Chinese-style black matte silk satin jacket may date it from the late 1940s, when the U.S. was occupying Japan. It has absolutely beautiful hand embroidery in lovely colors of silk thread. The three embroidery patterns used are traditionally Asian/Japanese: circles enclosing cranes, flowers and stylized ocean waves. The jacket has a mandarin collar and closes with Asian-style knot and loop closures down the front. The sleeves are full and wide, like kimono sleeves, and the jacket flares from the shoulder to the hem, with slits at the side seams. The embroidery designs are nicely matched at the center back seam. The lining fabric is a shinier black silk satin. The jacket is in excellent condition, appearing unworn, with one very small and very faint yellowed spot on the front, near the hem on the left-hand side of the jacket, on the waves embroidery just below the bottom closure (see bottom photo).
