Description
This huge black and amber stones and gold metal pendant and earrings set by deLillo is quite dramatic, to say the least! William deLillo (who formerly worked for Tiffany's and Harry Winston) and Robert Clark (who was previously head designer at Miriam Haskell, from 1958-68) joined forces to create some spectacular costume jewelry under the name "deLillo. This line was in existence from the mid-60s to the mid-70s, after which the pair worked instead as freelance designers, for Schiaparelli, among others. This set seems inspired by Indian fine jewelry, leading me to think it is from the late 60s, rather than from the 70s period. The faceted crystal stones are set into bright gold, heavyweight metal decorated with tiny raised dots. The pendant has a long chain, set with black stones, that closes with a hook clasp. It has a small plaque signed "deLillo" in script. The clip-on earrings have flower-shaped tops that clip to the ear, with large drops below. In excellent to mint condition, this set appears never worn. Since deLillo jewelry is relatively rare, sets like this one are highly collectible--and you can see why--with this example of their great workmanship and such stunning design.
