Description
This beautifully beaded late 1940s wool gabardine jacket is an unusual shade of "dove" grey, a blend of taupe and grey tones. The jacket has the padded shoulders, small collar and long, hip-length peplum typical of that era, with full, dolman sleeves that taper to narrow hems. The side and back panels of the jacket are cut all-in-one with the sleeve sections, with a triangular panel inset under the arm. The front seams come to a point at the waist, echoing the triangular seams at the top of each shoulder, and on the back of the jacket. The silvery-grey, hematite-colored glass beading decorates these triangular sections, across the back, along each shoulder and just a bit more on the front of the jacket. The beading creates the outlines of leafy designs accented with more thickly beaded 4-lobed flowers (or perhaps berries?). The jacket is lined with grey rayon crepe, which has faded in spots, particularly near the hem. The gabardine fabric of the jacket is also very slightly faded on the sleeves and shoulder area. This is not as noticeable in person as it is in our photos. There is also a very slight flaw to the gab fabric next to the covered buttons, which is hard to see even when the jacket is unbuttoned, and invisible when it is buttoned. (We have more photos of this jacket; if you would like to see further details, contact us and we would be happy to send them to you.) In very good condition, this jacket could be worn as an outwear piece for fall, and then as a suit jacket for winter. It would look great with a pencil skirt or wide leg pants.
