Description
This ivory silk Edwardian cape is covered in gorgeous ivory silk embroidery, and trimmed with long ivory fringe. The shape is roughly rectangular with a bit of a curve to it at the neck and the hem. The left shoulder has a long fringed tassel hanging from the fold of the kimono-style lapel (the fabric of the cape is folded back on both sides of the neckline to make a “shawl collar”). On the center back of the shawl is a more elaborate set of tassels hanging from silk cords and a silk covered disc. The embroidered design of lilies all over the shawl is done in an Asian style—it may be Chinese. Considering its age, this shawl is in very good condition, with only a few faint discolorations.
