This 1960s evening coat is quite unusual in that it is bright white--the perfect lightweight coat for a vintage wedding! The horizontally ribbed, slightly shiny white fabric is called bengaline. The coat has a fitted upper bodice with vertical bust darts and a high waist defined by a seam at the back and sides. The lower portion of the coat is gathered at this high waist seam for a bit of fullness and it is flared slightly from the seam to the hem. The coat has a small, pointed collar and three round, covered buttons. The sleeves are bracelet-length. The coat is fully lined with white taffeta. In very good condition, the coat has a small dark mark on the fabric near the hem and some dark discoloration on the inside of the collar (from a hanger, possibly--see photos). Neither of these issues is likely to be noticed when the coat is worn (the discoloration inside the collar can only be seen when the coat is inside out). This would be a lovely coat for a spring or summer formal event, as well as for a vintage style bride!
