This ivory wool crepe 1930s dress with bright blue wool embroidery is almost certainly from Peru, since the neckline and shoulder yoke feature llamas in the design. The blue embroidered trim on the inset waist panel, above the hem, and on the patch pockets includes other South American-style designs of animals and plants. The dress is gathered from the flat, front and back yokes to the waist, and also below the flat waist panel. This creates a bit of fullness in the skirt and a fairly blouson silhouette to the bodice. The dress fastens with snaps and hooks at the left side seam, and the lightweight wool crepe fabric is unlined. In very good condition, this ethnic-embroidered, circa late 1930s dress has these minor issues: one small “run” in the fabric weave at the left rear of the skirt, one faint spot on the left front of the skirt, and bit of overall yellowing to the fabric from normal wear and age--most noticeable at the underarms, but unlikely to be noticed when the dress is worn. It is sturdy, recently dry-cleaned, and ready to wear!
