This beautifully made, late 1940s short cape or caplet in ivory linen textured rayon has patriotic themed, military-style red, blue and metallic embroidery of a star on the left shoulder—perhaps as an homage to the US victory in WWII. Elegant grey shell buttons trim the patch pockets at each hip and fasten the cape at the neck, below the wide, pointed collar. The shoulders are squared and padded. The front of the shoulders have darts down to the bust area, for shaping. In back, the shape of the cape is more full, below the inset horizontal band of the shoulder yoke. The cape is almost full enough at the back and sides to give the illusion of sleeves, but instead it has only vertical slits in front for the arms, and loops inside (attached to the ivory rayon crepe lining) to help keep it in place when worn. This unique and well-tailored 1940s cape is in excellent condition; it appears never worn!
