Description
The sheer silk chiffon fabric of this 1930s dress and jacket set has a floral print in purple, pale pink, lime green and ivory. The gently fitted dress has a v-neckline with a wide collar decorated with an overlay of plain purple chiffon, with ornate cutouts at the edges. The elbow-length sleeves flare from the shoulder to the hem, creating a bell shape. The waist seam is slightly raised above the natural waist in the front and comes to a point at the center. The straight skirt is a bit wider at the hem, with two sets of two pleats at the front and the back. The back of the bodice has tiny pintucks below the sheer purple collar. The dress closes with snap fasteners in the left side seam. The three-quarter-length jacket is loose-fitting, with sleeves a bit longer than those of the dress and a single hook and eye closure at the front. The collar of the dress drapes over the jacket (which has a low, plain v-neckline) when they are worn together. The dress and jacket are wearable, although the chiffon fabric will require some care to wear, since it is so delicate by its nature (and its age). They are in very good condition. The jacket has a few light marks, barely noticeable due to the busy pattern, and some tiny, carefully done repairs to the cutout edges of the collar. The dress has had the side snaps replaced and has some small holes in the fabric of the collar: one 1/16 inch hole in the front on the right side and several tiny holes in the back of the collar (see photo).
