Description
The red and green wavy lines that criss-cross each other on the ivory background of this late 1940s "New Look" rayon suit really give your eyes a workout! The longer-length jacket has shoulder pads, dolman sleeves, a wide collar, a fitted waist and a gathered peplum that covers the hips. It closes with covered buttons. The straight skirt has a narrow waistband and two tiny pleats in front. It fastens on the left side with a metal zipper and hooks. Both pieces are unlined, and the rayon crepe fabric has a slight texture. Although the jacket still has black thread belt loops at the each side of the waist, the belt is not present; a simple black patent belt would look great with it. The skirt is in excellent condition, but the jacket has several issues: a few light spots near the buttons, a darker spot near the center front hem of the peplum and what looks like a cigarette burn hole on the lower left side of the peplum (see close-up photo). If you are handy (or know someone who is) I believe that this hole could be patched with fabric taken from one of the inside seams of the jacket, since there is plenty available. The suit is in good to fair condition as it is; with the hole patched it would be in very good, totally wearable condition. The classic style and the amazing print and colors make this suit worth the effort for a vintage-loving seamstress.
