This sheer, white cotton lawn circa 1900s to 1910s blouse dates from approximately the late Edwardian to WWI era. A “practical”, simple blouse for daytime wear, it features a high, buttoned, fold-over collar, a row of ruffles trimming the front button placket, and vertical rows of dainty pintucks decorating the front and back of the bodice. The straight sleeves have buttoned French cuffs, which only reach to mid-forearm on our tall mannequin, but may have been intended to be full-length for the original owner. The blouse hem is curved, longest at the center front and shorter at the sides and back. There is an attached drawstring at the center back, about 2 inches above the hem, for use in adjusting the waist size (designed to be hidden when tucked into a high-waisted skirt). This lovely white 1900s-1910s cotton blouse blouse is in good, wearable condition, with one replacement button (plastic—all of the rest are shell), a bit of wear around the buttons, a few tiny, pinhole-sized spots on the sleeves, and one on the back (see close-up photos) as its only issues.
