This Directoire-revival-style bonnet hat probably dates from the late 1910s or early 1920s. Made of soft, mauve pink silk velvet with dainty silk ribbon floral trim and wide, matching pink silk ties, this darling bonnet is designed to sit a bit back from the forehead, its flat-backed, shallow crown framing the face with a ruffle of ivory silk chiffon around it outer edge. It is on the smaller side, possibly designed for a larger child or young, teenage girl of the era, although it does fit fine on a smaller adult head size (approx. hat size 21”). The bonnet is lined with ivory silk and it is in remarkable, excellent to mint condition.
