This deadstock, unworn, 1930s black velvet peplum blouse with puffed, short sleeves has the most fabulous, giant, square, rhinestone buttons! The buttons are actually decorative, since the blouse fastens with snaps hidden underneath. A round collar with a sweet little bow completes the cuteness! The blouse has no bust darts, but it does have a section of small gathers at the top of each shoulder, that create a bit of fullness in the bust, below. It does have vertical darts that shape the waist, above the waist seam in front and back. Below the waist seam, the peplum is slightly longer and more full in back, than it is in front. The puffed sleeves have fitted hems—so, please check the sleeve opening measurement for best fit—and their shape is enhanced by small, flat shoulder pads (the sort typical of the 1930s, not the larger type common to the 1940s). The lightweight, crepe-backed rayon velvet is unlined. Although the blouse was never worn, it is not completely perfect: it is in very good to excellent condition, with yellowing to some of the buttons’ rhinestones (see buttons close-up photo), and a few replacements stones (put in by us). The store hangtag still attached to the sleeve gives the blouse’s original price as $10, around $180 in todays' dollars. Wearing this elegant 1930s velvet evening top will add sparkle and glamour to any event—even a Zoom cocktail party!
