Description
This circa 1930s “chain mail” bra in gold-tone metal was part of the stage costume wardrobe of a Chicago burlesque and violin performer named “Roba” (see her promotional flyer, in last photo). I bought lots of fun jewelry and some clothing from her estate, but this was 1 of only 2 burlesque costume pieces she had saved from her time on the stage, circa 1930s-1950s. The lightweight, dark gold metal filigree flowers that form the bra “cups” are attached to chain straps that fasten in back with curved metal clasps that bend to open and close around the large jump rings. The straps are shown on my mannequin crossed in back, to better fit her. They can also be worn straight to allow for a bit more room around the ribcage--see measurements for details. Each 4-petal flower has a red flat-backed rhinestone in its center. The stones in front are all original, while the 2 rhinestones on back are modern replacements. These 2 replacement stones are the only issue to note with this fabulous 1930s vintage burlesque costume bra, which is in excellent condition, sturdy and wearable.
