This supremely elegant late 1930s bias cut nightgown and peignoir set in ivory rayon satin and chiffon is trimmed with ecru lace. Perfect as bridal trousseau lingerie or for a sophisticated-yet-still-sexy pin-up shoot, this fantastic lingerie set loves the camera—we have many more photos, so, if you like more views, just ask us! The bias-cut, sleeveless nightgown has a deep V neckline in front and back, and attached narrow ties to cinch the waist area. The off-white rayon chiffon that makes up the front of the bodice/bust area is quite sheer—hard to see on our white mannequin, but check out the close-up photo for a better idea of how it will look over actual skin. The floral ecru lace trims the arm openings, the back neckline, the center front of the bodice, and is also inset into the lower section of the nightgown at about knee level. Below the lace insets, the skirt of the nightgown flares out in a trumpet skirt shape. The nightgown has no fastenings (other than the waist ties), and pulls on over the head.
The matching knee-length peignoir or robe has bracelet-length, flared sleeves, with tiny gathers at the top of each sleeve and across the tops of the shoulders. It closes in front, if desired, using four tiny hooks and thread loops. The curved front hem reminds us a bit of a men’s “cutaway” jacket style—except 100% more feminine!
Both pieces are in very good and totally wearable condition, freshly dry-cleaned and ready to wear. The peignoir has some very faint discoloration at the underarms (see photo). The nightgown has some faint, lightly yellowed marks on the lower part of the sleeves and across the lower back (see photos). The nightgown also has one light mark on the chiffon at the bust, unlikely to be noticed when worn over actual skin, and one pinhole-sized dark mark on the lower right side of the skirt (see photo).
This circa 1930s ivory satin lingerie set exudes Old Hollywood glamour. It is labeled a vintage size 34, but please check the measurements for more sizing information, and feel free to contact us with any questions you may have.
