This 1940s dress in navy blue rayon crepe features a fabulous ruffled hem, in two tiers of rayon moiré taffeta. It has the elegant, long lines of the late 1940s, including the longer-length skirt of the post-war era. The dress bodice has a high, V-shaped neckline, three-quarter-length sleeves, and previously had medium-sized shoulder pads (we still have one of them, which could be used to pattern new ones). Vertical darts shape the bust and hips. The side-draped skirt ruffle starts at the waist on the right side, then it circles around twice, to finish the hem. The crisp moiré taffeta fabric may have once been a darker blue, closer the navy blue of the lightweight rayon crepe; now, however, it is a lighter and more purplish-blue shade, as seen in our photos. The dress is unlined and fastens with two metal zippers: one at the back of the neck and one at the side seam. In very good condition, the dress has no other issues, besides the one missing shoulder pad and the slight fading of the taffeta fabric. This lovely late 1940s dress has simple, clean lines, but is still beautifully dramatic, with its ruffled hem and mixed fabric textures.
