This black wool gabardine, late 1940s Lilli Ann princess-style coat has the requisite nipped in waist and full skirt, complemented by fabulous bell sleeves! The large, squared shoulder pads and extra-wide, notched and pointed lapels are very 1940s, but the fitted waist and wide skirt give the nod to the 50s fashions to come. A double set of fabric-covered buttons, one row functional and one row decorative, fasten the fitted waist, along with a single snap between the two functional buttons, and a narrow ribbon tie, hidden inside. Multiple vertical darts shape the bodice. The flared shape of the bell sleeves echoes the shape of the coat’s hem. In back, the fitted bodice and flared skirt each have an inverted pleat at the center, which meet at the waist in an embroidered triangle, called an “arrowhead tack”.  The coat is fully lined with black rayon satin. In very good condition, the gabardine fabric has two tiny mends: one on the front of the right sleeve, and one just hidden under the edge of the right lapel (see close-up photos). These are extremely unlikely to be noticed when the coat is worn. This authentic late 1940s Lilli Ann coat has a restrained glamour combined with a dramatic shape--a true vintage classic that will also be versatile and very wearable!
