Description

This early 1950s vintage alligator handbag in a rich, dark brown would have been a coveted accessory for a mid-century lady—and is still a classic luxury item today! The top-handled frame bag has a doctor’s bag-style, boxy shape that is wider at the base than at the top/opening. The gold-tone metal frame is partially covered in alligator skin and fastens with a hinged clasp. The underside of the top handle is backed with dark brown leather. Inside, the purse is fully lined in caramel-colored leather, with one slip pocket and one zip pocket. In good condition, this medium-sized 1950s alligator handbag shows some wear to the skin from normal use, including on the top handle (see photo). This is most visible on one of the bottom corners at the base of the bag (see photo). The exposed metal of the purse frame has some tarnished areas, which does not affect the bag’s usability at all (see photo). I have lightened a few of my photos to better show the condition of the shiny alligator surface; the actual color of the handbag is a dark brown.
