This early 1950s cardigan is a vintage ladies’ letter sweater embroidered with the original owner’s name: Peggy Pence. (Really, the perfect 1950s vintage name!) It is woven from heavyweight wool in a charcoal grey heather, with black and ivory stripes at the v-neckline, on the small collar and the pockets, as well as on the ribbed cuffs. The cardigan fastens with silver metal buttons and it is unlined, as is normal for a 1950s letter sweater. 50s vintage sportswear like this is getting more difficult to find, and this classic cardigan is in near excellent condition, with two tiny mends to the wool knit on the inner side of the collar—see our close-up photo: they should be impossible to see when it is worn.
