This early 1950s skirt suit in red and black striped wool is very soft and beautifully tailored. The hip-length suit jacket has padded shoulders, notched lapels, long sleeves and covered buttons. The large patch pockets over the hips have a great design: four intersecting triangles that form a square. The jacket is shaped with darts from shoulder to waist and it is fully lined in burgundy rayon crepe. The matching pencil skirt has a straight fit with a kick pleat in back for ease of walking. It fastens with a metal side zipper and it is half-lined. This classic 1950s ladies’ suit is in excellent condition, with one tiny mend in the wool on the inside of the jacket, which cannot be seen when it is worn (see close-up photo). The red and black color combination is wonderful and the medium-weight wool fabric is high quality, with a slightly fuzzy surface and a super-soft hand.
