This circa 1950s or early 1960s halter top swimsuit by Royal Hawaiian is screen-printed in metallic gold over a background of blue and white cotton. The wonderful print seems inspired by traditional Pacific islands jewelry, possibly Balinese. The bathing suit has an hourglass shape, with diagonal seams that shape the bust, a fitted waist (with elasticized smocking at the sides for a great fit) and full-cut legs on the shorts. There are two pockets, one at each hip. The halter strap fastens with a coconut button; there are two different buttonholes, to adjust the length slightly. The suit is fully lined with white cotton and fastens with a metal zipper in back. This pin-up style vintage swimsuit is in very good condition with two minor issues: the elastic in the cotton lining leg openings is loose and will need to be replaced and also the gold metallic print has tarnished slightly at the center front, just above the right side hem (see close-up photo). Overall, this is a wonderful vintage bathing suit—great style, great colors and a great print too!
