Description

This large 1960s decoupage box purse or handbag in cream-colored painted wood has a lovely design of butterflies and foliage. Each of the butterflies is slightly raised from the surface of the bag, for a 3D effect. The twisted white lucite top handle is attached with gold-tone metal hardware, a bit brighter than the metal of the triple ball hinged clasp. The base of the bag is covered with the same bright yellow wool felt used for the lining. Inside, the bag has matching yellow braid trim and a small mirror inset into the lid. The artist has signed her handiwork as “by Vicki Jean”. This 1960s decoupage bag is in good condition, with a few minor issues. The cream painted finish is slightly yellowed from age, all over, and has a few tiny nicks from normal use. There is one crack in the wood of the lid and 2 smaller cracks in the wood near the base, none of which affects the bag’s structural integrity. They appear stable, and the lid functions perfectly well, although the crack in the lid is the largest and most visible—see photos. The “puffy” butterflies are somewhat fragile by their nature, but are looking great! With reasonably gentle handling and care in its storage, this vintage wooden box bag should be fine to carry for years to come.
