This one-shoulder 1960s dress in pink printed Thai silk is in fact actually from Thailand! Purchased by the original owner, a flight attendant, on one one of her many trips to Asia, the dress was most likely produced for export, but is made in the traditional style of a Thai Chakki formal dress. Similar to other mid-century vintage dresses produced by Western manufacturers but inspired by Asian styles, this one is the real thing! Worthy of the title bombshell, this sexy evening gown has a strapless bodice on one side, with a panel of fabric draped over the other shoulder, to hang to below hip-level in back, reminiscent of an Indian sari. Bust darts shape the bodice for a great fit. The long, narrow skirt has diagonal pleats across the front of the hips for a sexy, wiggle dress style fit. The panel that is draped over the front of the bodice is echoed by the double pleats that adorn the center front of the skirt. (This is also a traditional Thai design feature.) In back, the dress is fitted from waist to hips with darts. The draped panel hides a single, skinny shoulder strap, fastened onto the back of the bodice with a pair of hooks and eyes. The dress has a metal zipper in the left side seam and it is unlined. The skirt length is just below the calf on our tall mannequin, and should be about ankle-length on a more petite lady. A fabulous vintage 1960s cocktail dress for any occasion, this bright pink silk Asian style dress would also be appropriate for a formal tiki party—why not?! It is in excellent to mint condition. It came to us never worn by the original owner, still folded in its plastic bag. It comes with a matching fabric clutch bag (with detachable strap, inside), with a snap-closed, envelope flap--and a cute little bow on the front!
