Description
An early 1970s evening dress in slinky silk satin, this bright tomato red maxi by Adele Simpson features a striking, kinetic floral print in turquoise blue, brown, camel, and tan. The high, round collar is folded over, like a tiny turtleneck. The bracelet-length sleeves are narrow and straight, and the bodice is moderately fitted, with bust darts for shaping. The fitted waist seam is about half-an-inch above the natural waist, The straight skirt has a high side slit, on the left only. The sash belt is long enough to circle the waist twice, narrowing at each end. (The sash has several tiny hooks sewn onto the ends but I wasn’t able to figure out how to use them—I think it looks just fine tied as shown!) The dress is lined in lightweight red silk, hand-sewn in, and double-layered at the bodice. It fastens in back with an invisible nylon zipper. The dress is in very good condition, with one small hole in the front of the skirt carefully patched (and pattern-matched) by my expert seamstress. It will be almost impossible to notice when the dress is worn—see close-up photos.
