This Peck & Peck 1960s dress and coat set in lovely, striped alaskine (a silk and wool blend fabric with a sheen to its surface) combines some gorgeous colors: metallic gold, black, purple and red. It is one of my favorites of all of the 1960s cocktail dress and jacket sets that we have had over the years—the high-quality fabric, the color combination, the clean and classic design, and varying width stripes—all fabulous! The sleeveless shift dress has a plain black yoke and a high, round neckline (perfect for showing off a necklace or brooch!). The armholes of the dress are unusual, cut in a squared shape. Below the yoke, the dress is designed to be somewhat loose-fitting with some tiny gathers above the bust, at the lower edge of the shoulder yoke, but without bust or waist darts, and flaring out a bit from hips to hem. The dress fastens in back with a nylon zipper and is lined with muslin-type fabric. The matching coat has a more flared or A-line shape that the dress underneath, with bracelet-length sleeves, a contrasting, plain black Nehru collar and a black acetate taffeta lining. The coat fastens with shiny black plastic buttons. In excellent to mint condition, this 60s dress and coat ensemble appears unworn, with crisp, bright fabric and no flaws to note.
