LABEL: Jeanne Marc, 100% Cotton
This colorful, avant-garde 80s outfit by Jeanne Marc is very eye-catching! According to the Vintage Fashion Guild Label Resource: "Jeanne Marc was established in 1973 by wife and husband team Jeanne Allen and Marc Grant. Located in San Francisco, the Jeanne Marc label was one of the last to be made completely in the US." Their garments were considered relatively high-end at the time and this blouse and shorts, new wave style, 80s 2-piece set shows why: great design details, quality fabric and nice construction! The polished cotton blouse and shorts are done in contrasting colors of aqua and black print, both with bold, striped piping trim. The oversize fit, tunic-length blouse has a high collar in red that fastens with a really neat “plaid” carved button, and the asymmetrical front closure uses the same unique buttons. The kimono style, draped sleeves cover a fitted red panel underneath (see side-view photo). The dressy shorts have a wide waistband with quilting in front and a section of elastic at the center back. The waistband fastens with two more buttons (the buttons at the back are decorative). The shorts have relatively wide legs, with flat pleats in front, and pockets at each hip. Both pieces of the set are unlined. The blouse has large shoulder pads, which can be attached or removed with Velcro. The set is in very good condition, never worn, with its original boutique price tag still attached. Its only issue is some discoloration at the very edge of the waistband, probably rust from long storage hung on metal hanger clips (see photo). Otherwise, this set is mint, and very unusual!
