The perfect pullover sweater for a hip beatnik girl, circa late 1950s, this gold and black stripe wool V-neck has an unusual, high/low hem. Made in Austria for beloved Chicago department store Marshall Field & Company, the sweater is trimmed with brighter yellow floral embroidery over the top of the vertically striped background. The flat knit wool is a medium weight, with slightly chunkier, charcoal heather wool ribbed trim at the neckline and cuffs. It has a nonchalant, slouchy shape, with dolman sleeves. The hem in back is lower than in front. The sweater is in near excellent condition, with a tiny bit of discoloration to the label, only. It is unlined. The bumblebee black and yellow stripes are striking and the style is very “cool girl” of the era—pair this beatnik 1950s sweater with a black cigarette pant, ballet flats, and a book of poetry!
