This late 1950s cashmere cardigan is versatile and lovely, in black with luxe, black silk satin trim. Wear it on its own over a pencil skirt for a fitted, “sweater girl” look, or layer it over your favorite vintage dress or a simple blouse. The small collar, front opening and front waist are all trimmed with wide bands of black silk--with an adorable bow at the center of the waist. The tiny buttons hidden under the satin-trimmed placket are also covered in beautiful black silk satin, and fasten with braided cord loops. The narrow, three-quarter-length sleeves, collar and waist/hem are a ribbed knit, in contrast to the super-soft, smooth knit used on the body or the sweater. The cardigan has the more fitted waist and shorter length of a 1950s cardigan, rather than the more boxy shape and hip-length that comes into vogue in the 1960s, which is why we are dating to the end of the 1950s (although it could possibly be from the very early 1960s, instead). The waist, sleeve cuffs, and collar (underneath the silk trim) are all a ribbed knit. The sweater is unlined. This elegant black cashmere cardigan is in very good, near excellent condition, with no pilling. It has one tiny mend in the knit on the back right side near the hem (done by us), which will be impossible to notice when the sweater is worn. In our close up photo, we tried to capture it for you, but it is hard to see!
