This late 1930s or early 1940s “doll hat” or tiny tilt hat combines a black, curly fur crown with a black rayon jersey knit fabric that hugs the back of the head like a turban. The jersey fabric at the back of the hat helps keep this dramatic hat in place at a gravity-defying angle, when worn. It should stretch enough to accommodate most ladies’ head sizes. The same black jersey fabric is used as the band trimming flat crown of the curly lamb fur front section of the hat. The tiny brim of the hat is nearly round, just a bit longer from front to back than from side to side (see measurements). The crown of the hat is lined with stiff mesh, hidden under a layer of black rayon organza. The brim of the hat is backed with black fur felt. In very good condition, this true vintage, late 1930s-40s tilt hat has a small amount of make-up discoloration to the front section of the inner grosgrain band, which did not fully resolve with cleaning (see underside photo). It will not be seen when the hat is worn.
