This salmon pink, black and off-white floral print 1950s dress has an attached black velvet sash cinching the waist, and a wide flap in back, rather like a short train. The rayon brocade fabric has a pattern of tiny squares mixed with horizontal lines, with the floral design printed over it. The combination of the fabric weave and the large daisies print remind us a bit of mid-century Asian-textiles, like fabric used for 1950s kimonos—perhaps it was inspired by them. The sleeveless dress has a columnar shape, with a fitted bust, waist and hips. The wide back panel is attached at the shoulders, and also at the top and bottom of the black velvet waist section, covering the back of the bodice and straight skirt. The skirt has a slit at the back hem for ease of walking. The velvet waist trim has a “knot” in the center front. The dress is unlined and fastens with a metal zipper in the side seam. This elegant 1950s cocktail dress is in very good condition, with a small section of the back hem slit that appears longer than originally intended (see close-up photo). This is quite unlikely to be noticed, since it is hidden under the back panel, when the dress is worn. The fun color combination of salmon pink and black is classic 1950s!
