Darling in dotted tulle! This early 1960s cocktail dress has an alluring illusion bodice and full skirt in black rayon, finely ribbed faille, under a layer of black tulle with oval polka dots. The pointed, strapless, sweetheart under-bodice of faille is fitted with darts, and lined with lightweight, plain weave rayon. The outer layer of tulle forms a banded collar and three-quarter-length sleeves. The tulle forming the sheer upper bodice and sleeves is lined with sheer, beige mesh, for added stability. The waist seam is slightly higher in front than in back. Below, the gathered, multi-layered skirt consists of: an outer layer of dotted tulle, another layer of finer, plain black tulle under it for added fullness, and the third layer of lightweight black faille, which is lined with silky black rayon. The outer layers of tulle are slightly shorter than the under-layer of faille, as seen in our photos. The dotted tulle skirt layer has a narrow band of nylon “horsehair” at its hem, to help it keep its full, fluffy shape. This is a very nicely constructed dress, which, although unlabeled, was clearly made quite well! The dress fastens in back with a metal zipper, and also has two smaller metal zippers, one at each narrow sleeve hem. This lovely 1960s dress is in very good condition, with a very slight, overall fade to the dotted tulle (just a hint of purplish-brown color, instead of really dark, true black), and one tiny mend in the dotted tulle on the back left side of the bodice (see close-up).
