Description
Luscious black rayon velvet makes this late 1940s 2-piece skirt and sleeveless top set perfect for the holidays. The not-so-basic black will also be a great backdrop for showing off all of your favorite sparking accessories! The scoop neck blouse is gathered at the underbust seam, for a flattering shape. Below, multiple panels with vertical seaming make up the ribcage to waist section of the top. As you can see in the ”untucked” photos, the top was made quite a bit longer in back than it is in front, and utilizes the fabric selvedge instead of a finished hem. (This seems very 1940s to me—using every inch of available fabric!) The full, flaring skirt has a fitted waistband, with a side button and metal zipper. I think the waistband may have been altered at some point, perhaps to make it larger, since it has a non-centered seam in it. Other than this potential waistband alteration, the blouse and skirt set is in excellent condition, and almost certainly home-sewn. Both pieces are unlined, lightweight rayon velvet. You could wear each piece separately, of course; worn together as shown, they look like a lovely late 1940s cocktail dress.
