The wide brim of this late 1930s or early 1940s hat in black taffeta fabric is fetchingly ruffled and feminine. The brim and open-centered, shallow crown are both shirred. The narrow, self-fabric band is trimmed with two flat bows. The gathered center opening on the crown is slightly too large for our molded-haired mannequin; it will rest a bit higher up on a real person’s head/hairdo. The hat is unlined and in excellent condition. This versatile, wide-brimmed hat can be worn straight on (as shown) or tilted more towards one side or the other. The brim is wired just inside its ruffled edge (at the outer edge of the shirred section), and can be adjusted into a less symmetrical shape with careful bending, if you’d like.
