An elegant 1960s evening gown in black velvet, this beauty is adorned with an intricately beaded collar. The wide collar drapes over the shoulders to create the effect of cap sleeves with a dangling fringe of beads, although the dress is actually sleeveless underneath. The illusion bodice of sheer black mesh backed with ivory organza, almost completely hidden under the beadwork, has a high neckline, similar to a mandarin collar. The lovely beadwork features a mix of glass and plastic, round, tube, and teardrop shaped black beads, plus red, green, and blue faceted beads. The rest of the dress is a simple column of black polyester velvet, fitted at bust waist and hips, and fastening at the center back with a metal zipper. Bust darts and vertical seaming help to create the slender yet curve-hugging shape. The narrow skirt has a high slit in back. The velvet section is lined with black taffeta, probably acetate or a nylon/acetate blend. This fabulous 1960s evening dress is in very good to excellent condition, missing one single teardrop bead, at the front of the left shoulder. The wide, beaded neckline reminds us of an ancient Egyptian collar—very 1960s diva meets Cleopatra!
