Blue white gingham cotton late 1940s sundress | M

1930s - 1940s Clothing

This blue and white gingham late 1940s sundress has a very “Dorothy” vibe—don’t you think? The pale blue and white checked cotton is embellished with ruffles of white cotton eyelet lace at the wide straps and square neckline, along with the 2 patch pockets. The sleeveless bodice is gently fitted with diagonal bust darts. The attached, wide sash ties can be used to cinch in the waist. (Narrow panels are set into each side of the bodice, perhaps an adaptation to better fit the original owner—see photo.) Below the center-pointed waist seam, the skirt flares to the hem. The dress fastens with a metal zipper in back. The very lightweight cotton fabric is unlined, and will be comfy on even the hottest summer day! In excellent condition, this sweet gingham 1940s sundress dress has no issues to note.
