A rayon jersey early 1940s dress with an autumnal print of roses in golden yellow and rust-brown, this lightweight and lovely frock has a deep V-neckline. There is shirring along the top of the shoulders and at the front of the waist, adding fullness to the bust area. Small “roll”-style shoulder pads create the slightly puffed shoulders, above the short sleeves, which are gathered into pleats at the hems. The skirt is relatively straight, no doubt reflecting wartime fabric restrictions. The dress is unlined and has no fastenings, designed to be pulled on over the head. It may be home sewn, since it has no labels. Based on the measurements, this dress may be a vintage “half size”, sized for a more full-figured, but petite person. (See measurements for more details--our last photo shows the dress unpinned to the mannequin, for a better idea of it s actual size.) It is in very good condition: it has been worn and loved, but has no obvious issues other than a small mend at the center of the V-neckline, and the fact that it is missing its original belt (belt loops still present). A perfect 1940s dress for fall—you can add tights and a jacket or cardigan, for wear into the winter!
