This purple and white print cotton, late 1950s swimsuit by Cole of California is a relatively modest, but still very cute mid-century bathing suit! The fitted bodice is shaped with darts and features white piping across the center bust. Elasticized panels at each side allow for some leeway in bust and ribcage sizing, while still providing an excellent fit. The lower half of the swimsuit is styled like brief shorts. The suit is lined with an added layer of boned, print cotton at the bust, and elsewhere it is lined in ivory nylon jersey, with elastic at each leg for modesty (see inside photo). It fastens in back with a metal zipper and a single snap. The straps are adjustable in length with buttons, and can be worn crossed (as shown) or straight, depending on the length required for your best fit. In very good condition, this authentic 1950s swimsuit has only one issue to mention: the elastic in the lining leg openings is a bit loose from wear, although it still has some stretch to it. This lovely vintage bathing suit is totally ready for a day lounging by the pool, or on the beach with a tiki cocktail in hand, or for just enjoying the sun in your own backyard!
