This copper-colored silk organza cocktail or party dress from the early 1960s pairs a sleeveless illusion bodice with a pleated, full skirt, for a classic mid-century silhouette! The sheer organza outer layer of the bodice has a square neckline (V neckline, in back) with scalloped edges and embroidered floral designs, over an acetate taffeta lining with a strapless sweetheart neckline. The full skirt has flat pleats gathered into the waist seam, and is also lined with taffeta, plus a single layer of tulle underneath that, for added volume. It is shown here with an additional crinoline underneath (not included). The dress fastens with a metal zipper at the center back. In very good condition, the dress has one issue to note: a water mark/stain on the skirt lining (see photo). This is very difficult if not impossible to see when the dress is worn, because the layers of pleats in the skirt hide the spot. So, unless you spread the skirt pleats completely flat and look directly at it, it’s unlikely to be noticed. This sweet 1960s party dress is a lovely color, a rich coppery-brown, with a brighter copper lining and darker brown embroidery on the bodice. It has been freshly dry-cleaned and is ready to wear!
