This adorable set of circa 1930s sailor-style beach pajamas (or 2-piece “play clothes” outfit) in lightweight ivory cotton pairs a cropped, boxy top with a high-waisted, cropped, wide leg pant. The set features nautical detailing like the red and blue side stripes and the red-buttoned, front fly/flap on the pant. The red and blue striped, extra-high, cummerbund-style waistband is attached to the pant at the back and sides, but not at the center front—perhaps intended to show a bit of midriff, at center front, when worn? Quite risqué! The waistband is cinched with a red Bakelite buckle. The double-breasted, sleeveless top fastens with the same red-painted wood buttons as the pant, and has one red and one blue lapel, continuing the color theme. The top hem comes to a point at the center back. The top has diagonal bust darts, which appear to have been taken in a bit by the previous owner. The pant has a low, dropped crotch, wide, cropped legs, and large, curved pockets. Both pieces are unlined. In fantastic, near excellent condition, the only issue with this authentic 1930s beach pajamas set is a tiny yellowed spot at the back of the neck, where a label may have once been located (see photo).
