Size: 5” wide by 4” tall (without fringe) with 1” long fringe
This tiny 1920s beaded evening bag is made of cut steel and aluminum beads with a deco geometric pattern, in shades of bright silver, bronze and bright copper orange. A stepped envelope flap hides a tiny mother-of-pearl button and beaded loop closure. The narrow strap is also beaded, with some visible repair where it meets the sides of the bag. The inside of the purse is unlined, but there is a fabric-covered bar (metal or wood? something stiff and hard…) across the top, inside, to help it keep its flat shape. Beaded fringe decorates the bottom edge of the purse. In back, the purse has a surprise for you: a beautiful art deco design beaded into the pattern on the lower left corner of the bag. This lovely 20s evening bag is in very good condition, with these minor issues: the repair to the ends of the strap (as mentioned above), some overall oxidizing to the bronze metal beads (they may have originally been more of a gold color, as seen on the underside of the flap), and one of the beaded fringe strands is slightly loose, and could stand to be tightened, to be more sturdy. This bag would be best for a collector, rather than for regular use, due to the fragility of the materials, but it is in great condition for its age!
