The designer Diane Freis is best known for creating feminine, comfortable dresses in gorgeous, colorful print fabrics. Many of these lovely creations are made of lightweight polyester georgette, as is this one, dating from early 80s. This Freis dress combines 2 patterned fabrics, as was often the case with her designs. The floral- and fruit-printed georgette in orchid purple, fuchsia pink, red, and green forms the majority of the dress, with a busier, more intensely pink floral print fabric on the portrait collar and waist panel. Shiny sequins in red, fuchsia, and green are scattered over the print, and add a bit of sparkle! The dress fit is blousy through the bodice and sleeves, and gathered at the wide waist panel. The skirt is slightly flared from waist to hem, with narrow inverted pleats all around it. The shirred waistband will be easy-to-wear, due to the elastic used to gather it into a “puckered” texture. The full, elbow-length sleeves are also elasticized at the hem. The v-neckline has a fabric flower, narrow fabric ties trimmed with plastic beads, and a wide, ruffled collar. The large shoulder pads have a pleated panel underneath to enhance the puff-shouldered silhouette. The dress pulls over the head, with no zipper or other fastenings except the neckline ties. The lightweight polyester georgette fabric feels like it floats above the body when worn, and does not wrinkle—always a plus! This fun Diane Freis 80s dress is excellent condition.
