Brim: 5" wide in front, narrows to 2" in back
Inner circumference: 21.5"
Label: Designed by Stylist, Chicago
This dramatic black felt early 1940s wide brim hat has an upturned brim edge and a mysterious, patterned chin-length veil. The asymmetrical, shallow crown is designed to fit against the back of the head, tilting it back from the face when it is worn. Underneath the brim, a band of pale mauve-purple fabric, decorated with parallel lines of trapunto, encircles the head, with a large front bow. This band of fabric under the brim creates the effect of a turban--a great design! As fabulous as this hat is, one of my favorite elements is actually its label: the capital "S" in "Stylist" forms a wide-brimmed hat! The hat is in very good condition, with one spot at the center back of the wired brim where about half an inch of the heavy wire is exposed (see close-up photo). Also, the mauve fabric may have faded from another, original color, possibly aqua, based on the thread color. Neither of these minor issues should be noticeable when the hat is worn.
