This fantastic, film noir era, late 1940s ladies’ coat in black twill weave, heavyweight wool has large shoulder pads, wide sleeves and a single button closure at the pointed collar. The nipped in waist fastens with a hook and thread loop. Diagonal pockets at each hip flare out slightly, emphasizing the fitted waist. Although relatively straight-cut in front, the back of the coat is more full, in both the upper and lower sections, which are gathered into a curved, inset waist panel. This well-made coat has great details, like the triangular inset under each arm which mirrors the triangular shape where the diagonal pockets meet the waist seam, and the darts in each sleeve’s elbow, to make them easier to bend when you move. The coat is fully lined in black rayon crepe and it is in excellent condition. The wool twill fabric is heavier than it looks and should be quite warm. Channel your inner femme fatale in this versatile and stylish, midnight black 1940s coat!
