This grey and ivory cotton blend gingham check dress from the late 1950s by designer Georgia Bullock is versatile, feminine, and quite well made too! According to a post about the designer over at CoutureAllure.com’s wonderful vintage fashion blog, “Her line of simple, elegant and expensive fashions was very popular in the late 1950s and 1960s and was sold in the finest shops and department stores all across the U.S.” (http://coutureallure.blogspot.com/2012/08/forgotten-designer-georgia-bullock.html). This charming day dress does appear simple at first glance, but details like the ruffled portrait collar, the real shell buttons and bound buttonholes and the perfectly finished, crystal pleated hem elevate the dress above your average vintage cotton dress, that’s for certain! The bodice has cap sleeves and darts at the bust and waist for gentle shaping. The skirt is gathered and full, with the eight-inch deep, pleated ruffle at the hem. Hidden snaps from the waist to the high hip fasten the dress, along with the shell buttons. The skirt section is lined with ivory organdy (which has yellowed a bit on one side, from long storage, although the outer, gingham fabric is totally fine). Other than this lining issue, the dress is in great condition, with no other flaws to note.
