This classic mid-century cocktail dress in goldenrod yellow dates from the early 1960s. The lightweight gold fabric has slubbed texture, similar to shantung, and is probably acetate or an acetate blend (definitely manmade fibers, not silk). The fitted bodice has darts for shaping, a sweetheart neckline, and cap sleeves. A narrow band of piping trims the waist seam. Below, the straight skirt also has darts, at the front and back hip, along with a center back kick pleat. The dress is unlined except for taffeta interfacing around the neckline. It closes in back with a metal zipper. An attached loop at the left side of the waist currently holds an off-white organza bow with gold embroidery trim. After the dress returned from our drycleaner, the bow was damaged/shattered on one side, so we trimmed off the damaged area and mended it to its current asymmetrical shape, as shown. It could be left as it is, if you don’t mind the asymmetrical shape. It could also easily be replaced with new fabric, or a small scarf, or whatever you choose. The asymmetrical/mended bow is the only issue with this authentic vintage, 1960s cocktail dress; it is in very good condition, and has no other flaws to note.
