This brown with metallic gold print 1960s Shaheen blouse and pant set in polished cotton is pretty unusual! Best known for Hawaiian print sarong dresses and swimwear, Alfred Shaheen manufactured hand-printed textiles in Hawaii, as well as creating garments like this 2-piece set from the fabric. It shows an Asian influence in the blouse and capri pants style, as well as in the gold screen-printed designs. The cotton fabric is a rich chocolate brown, which nicely sets of the bright gold patterns. Speaking of bright, the front of the blouse is trimmed with rows of gold metallic lace (like shiny tuxedo shirt ruffles!), and it fastens in front with gold and rhinestone buttons. The hip-length blouse has a small, pointed collar, bust darts for shaping, and plain gold buttons at the sleeve cuffs. The cropped and flared capri pants have an inverted pleat on the outer side of their hems. They are high waisted and fasten in back with a metal zipper and button at the waistband. Both pieces are unlined. This 1960s blouse and cropped trouser set is in very good condition: the top appears mint, and unworn, however the pant has less gold printing still visible—perhaps worn and laundered, while the top was not, for some reason? Other than the faded printing, the set is in fabulous condition. It would be a fun find for a collector of Alfred Shaheen vintage clothing, since it is more unique. And, of course, the two pieces can be worn separately—always a plus!
