This never-worn 1960s day dress in crisp, green and white check 100% cotton gingham features dainty white lace trim at the round neckline, and edging the button-front bodice. The elbow-length sleeves have ruffled cuffs, also trimmed with lace. Diagonal bust darts, and vertical darts above the waist in front and back provide shaping—although the bodice was likely intended to be just a bit loose-fitting, and comfortable. Pearly white plastic buttons and a single snap at the waist seam fasten the dress in front. The skirt is full and pleated, gathered into the fitted waist seam, and cinched with a self-fabric belt. The lightweight cotton fabric is still a bit stiff, with its original/manufacturer’s fabric finish still present; it will soften with future laundering. The red “shadow” visible in the back-view dress photos is the tag at the back of the neck, showing through the lightweight fabric (could be removed, if preferred). Our last photo shows the dress unpinned form the mannequin, to give a better idea of its actual size. Unlined and in excellent to mint condition, this deadstock vintage, early 1960s shirtwaist-style dress is a mid-century classic, perfect for picnics and sunny, summer days!
