Chin-length black veiling swathes this braided ivory straw wide brim 1940s hat with “New York Creation” label. The hat’s shallow crown is slightly deeper in back, to rest on the back of the head. The wide brim is blocked to curve downwards at its outer edge (it is not wired). A narrow band of crochet lace trims the center front of the brim. The straw itself is probably a light/natural color, underneath the surface ivory finish. This authentic 1940s straw hat is in good condition. It has one break in the veiling. one small, dark mark on the underside of the brim and some discoloration to the inner grosgrain band from make-up (these last 2 are unlikely to be visible when the hat is worn). We love the combination of the “femme fatale” style black veil with the light color of the straw on this classic 40s wide-brim hat.
