This late 1940s ladies suit in heather grey wool has a hip-length, tailored jacket and calf-length skirt, slightly flared from hips to hem. The suit jacket has wonderful, asymmetrical lapels adorned with covered buttons. Lighter grey wool piping trims the bound buttonholes and edges of the half-moon shaped pockets. The same lighter grey fabric forms the notched sleeve cuffs. The jacket has large shoulder pads and is gently shaped at the bust and waist with darts. It is fully lined with mauve rayon crepe fabric. The six-gore skirt is unlined with a narrow waistband fastened by a button at the waist and a metal side zipper. This tailored 1940s vintage skirt suit is in very good condition with two minor issues: some discoloration to the jacket lining fabric (unlikely to be noticed when the suit is worn) and some slight residue on the side of the waistband, where the original plastic button melted when we sent the suit to our drycleaner. (It has since been replaced with a modern button that will cause no further issues.) Our final photo shows the suit unpinned from the mannequin, to give a better idea of its actual size.
